Choose the stage that resolves the actual uncertainty
A larger feature list is not always the next useful investment. Identify what prevents the team from making a confident decision, then choose work that produces the missing evidence.
The mechanic exists only in a description
Commission a prototype around one question. For example, can players predict how changing gravity alters a short route? Keep the environment small enough to revise. The review should establish what they understood and where the interaction failed, with future content held separately.
One system blocks a playable section
Use a gameplay systems scope when the surrounding experience is established but a defined behavior is missing. A checkpoint needs to specify position, inventory, puzzle state, and restart consequences. The deliverable is that agreed behavior integrated into the game, with neighboring rules checked after the change.
The concept works, but production assumptions remain open
A representative 2D or 3D section can bring art, audio, interface, saving, and target-device performance together. Choose a section that exposes the difficult production relationships. A beautiful scene without the relevant interaction will leave the main questions unanswered.
The game runs alone but struggles in its real setting
A browser delivery review follows loading, focus, page scrolling, audio, tab changes, and exit in the actual page. A mobile review examines touch and interruption on physical devices. These are different investigations, even when they begin with the same game files.
Making content repeatedly breaks the build
Inspect the content workflow before commissioning a large editor. A small game tool might catch a missing exit, broken dialogue reference, or unsupported value at the moment it is introduced. Keep authors able to correct the problem and verify the output in the game.
The team cannot explain whether a release is ready
Organize testing and release work around a named candidate. Separate a defect in the build from incomplete store material or unavailable account access. The readiness record should say what is verified, what is blocked, and who can resolve each blocker.
